چکیده

The E877 experimental setup is discussed in detail elsewhere [1–4]. In the current analysis, for the reaction plane determination and the evaluation of the reaction plane resolution, we exploit the almost 4π calorimeter coverage of the apparatus (the Target Calorimeter (TCal) covers the pseudorapidity range −0.5 < η < 0.8, the Participant Calorimeter (PCal) 0.8 < η < 4.2). Charged particles, emitted in the forward direction (−134 < θhorizontal < 16 mrad, −11 < θvertical < 11 mrad), are analyzed by a high resolution magnetic spectrometer. The average momentum resolution is ∆p/p ≈3% limited by multiple scattering. A time-of-flight hodoscope located behind the tracking chambers (10 m from the target) provides time-of-flight information with a typical resolution of 85 ps. For the identification of charge=2 particles we also use the Forward Scintillator array located approximately 33 m downstream of the target. The centrality of the collisions is determined by the transverse energy deposited in the PCal (see Table 1).

Coulomb Effects in Charged Particle Spectra from Heavy Ion Collisions at AGS and SIS ∗

Data from the AGS experiment E866 on charged particles emitted in central Au+Au collisions at 10.8 AGeV incident energy is reviewed. The study of spectral shapes indicates the presence of collective transverse flow and – in particular for charged pions – of Coulomb final state interaction between emitted particles and the nuclear charge distribution. The comparison to SIS pion data measured wit...

Where do spectators flow? ... and dipole flow in CuAu and PbPb collisions

We present the first measurements of charge-dependent directed flow in Cu+Au collisions at sNN= 200 GeV. The directed flow has been measured as functions of the transverse momentum and pseudorapidity with the STAR detector. The results show a small but finite di↵erence between positively and negatively charged part cles. The di↵erence is qualitatively explained by the patron-hadron-string-dynam...

Collective flow from the intranuclear cascade model.

The phenomenon of collective flow in relativistic heavy ion collisions is studied using the hadronic cascade model ARC. Direct comparison is made to data gathered at the Bevalac, for Au+Au at p = 1 − 2 GeV/c. In contrast to the standard lore about the cascade model, collective flow is well described quantitatively without the need for explicit mean field terms to simulate the nuclear equation o...

Transverse mass spectra in Heavy Ion Collisions from AGS to RHIC

Transverse mass spectra of hadrons are presently in the center of interest of the experimental study of relativistic heavy ion collisions. The significant suppression of high transverse momentum hadrons in Au+Au collisions compared to pp observed at RHIC energies [1] is often attributed to the energy loss of highly energetic particles in a hot colored medium (QGP) [2]. On the other hand, the me...

Azimuthal dependence of pion interferometry at the AGS

Two-pion correlation functions, measured as a function of azimuthal emission angle with respect to the reaction plane, provide novel information on the anisotropic shape and orientation of the pion-emitting zone formed in heavy ion collisions. We present the first experimental determination of this information, for semi-central Au+Au collisions at 2–6AGeV. The source extension perpendicular to ...
